The tangatanga wing of the ruling Jubilee party have made an about turn on their earlier opposition of the ongoing Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) rallies and now vows to campaign for the same intensively.

Speaking in Nairobi, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen detailed 7 points that he says will ensure that they participate and contribute towards successful BBI rallies across the country.
"We believe that by our participation in these rallies, we shall redirect the BBI conversation to people centric issues such as the economy, unemployment, social justice, rule of law and human rights. At the moment the discussion is centered on personal political power and positions by leaders," he said.

Murkomen claimed that the current BBI steering committe is having dealings under the table which will affect the delivery of a good document. "We are concerned by reports on existence of a clandestine BBI steering committee with an underground draft report and bill. To this end, we demand that the entire BBI process be driven in an open and transparent manner by the gazetted committee," he added.

He said that his team is opposed to the use of public funds in organizing BBI rallies saying only Parliament and County Assemblies are mandated to do so. He has said that his team's participation and organization in the rallies will be from their personal contribution.

Murkomen has trashed government agencies and accused them of intimidation of members opposed to the BBI. He has called on the agencies to create an enabling political environment "that will facilitate an open and robust debate devoid of intimidation and personal attack."

He was accompanied by a section of Jubilee party legislators and Senators.

  1. A tactical retreat. It is better fight from within, instead of fighting from outside....Now, Gideon would not have a monopoly of "popularising" BBI in rift Valley.
