The National government and counties drawn from the North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) have today signed an Intergovernmental Participation Agreement (IPA) for the implementation of  Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) in the respective counties.

The event was presided over by outgoing Health CS Sicily Kariuki who said that the government is keen on ensuring it provides the best healthcare to it's citizens.
“We are in a sustainable UHC journey with special focus on investing in primary health care, human resource complement, basic equipment and essential commodities," she said.

The counties are expected to roll out the UHC within a period of five months.
“We support the national government efforts to improve access to affordable healthcare in remote parts of this country. The IPA gives us a quick appraisal to roll out UHC,” Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago said.

“We look forward to implementing this IPA for UHC in the next six months. We shall continue to invest in health to ensure UHC is a success. We are in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big 4 Agenda in which health is among the pillars. As North Rift Economic Bloc, we will be working on some common programmes towards the implementation and attainment of Universal Health Care in our economic bloc. This will enable us focus on common focal points in making our health care services accessible and affordable," said Nandi Governor Stephen Sang.

The NOREB counties comprise of  8 counties namely Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Elgeiyo Marakwet, West pokot, Baringo, Trans-Nzoia, Samburu and Turkana.
