Embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Ndung’u Waititu has been impeached.

Through a majority vote, Senators voted to send home the Governor following two days of intense debate on his impeachment motion.

Waititu has been impeached on three charges namely; gross violation of the Constitution and Public Finance Management Act, Crimes under the National Law and gross abuse of Office.

Waititu is accused of contravening the public procurement and disposal act by allegedly influencing the award of lucrative tenders to companies associated with his relatives an allegation he argued is untrue. He is also accused of hiring over 600 casuals without the involvement of the County Public Service Board and later sacking them leading to loss of public funds in the county.

The Governor is also been accused of illegally dispossessing off a widow's land and registering it under his wife's name. Waititu is still facing charges of misappropriation of Sh 588 million county funds, a case that is before the court.
