A day after the government assured  Kenyans that Thursdays bus attack by the Al Shabab was just an isolated incident, and that the country's security situation is under control another attack has been carried out by the outlawed group in Lamu County. The attack was carried on Camp Simba in Manda Bay, Lamu County.

A statement released by the Somalia's Islamist group Al Shabaab said that on Sunday, "The Mujahideen fighters covertly entered enemy lines successfully stormed the heavily fortified base and have now taken control of a part of the base and inflicted severe casualties on both US and Kenya troops, destroyed US military aircraft and vehicles"

The Al shabab spokesman has told media sources that the Sunday morning attack is not connected to current events in the Middle East.
The Al Shabab statement carried the title 'Storming the U.S Naval base in Kenya'  and went on to justify their reasons for the attack. "Kill the disbelievers wherever you find them and expel them from where they have expelled you. Disbelief is worse than killing. And fight not with them in sacred mosques unless they first fight you there. But if they attack you, then kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers," read the statement. The group has also put out a statement promising further updates.

The Kenya military reports that the attack has been successfully repelled, and at least four militants have been killed. "This morning at around 5:30 am an attempt was made to breach security at Manda Air Strip. The attempted breach was successfully repulsed. Four terrorists bodies have so far been found. The airstrip is safe.  Arising from the unsuccessful breach a fire broke out affecting some of the fuel tanks located at the airstrip. The fire has been put under control and standard security procedures are now on-going." read the statement from the Kenya Defence Forces.
