The Council of Governors (CoG) has through consensus re-elected Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya as its chair for the second term.

Oparanya retained the seat together with his deputy Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria in a ceremony held at Movenpick hotel, Nairobi.

Presiding over the event, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa assured the council of the government's support in ensuring smooth running of all county governments. He said that the government had set aside Sh 5 billion to go towards rebuilding the lives of Kenyans affected by floods and drought. He also called on Parliament to fast track the Disaster Risk Management bill.

The CS asked the governors to lead the championing of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) because devolution is the biggest winner of the BBI process. "We are about to conclude the regional economic policy and the BBI task force has captured the importance of regional economic blocs. We will put the necessary legal and policy framework to ensure this becomes a success," he added.
