Ann Kananu Mwenda is set to become the  Deputy Governor for Nairobi county if the Nairobi County assembly vets and approves her.

Making the announcement today, embattled Nairobi county governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, said that the nomination is "in the interest of ensuring stability of Kenya's capital city and largest county by economy and population."

Mwenda's nomination comes two years after the resignation of Polycarp Igathe over what he termed as his failure to earn trust from the Governor.

Governor Sonko was barred from accessing the Nairobi county offices following a graft case in which the ODPP took him to court to face charges of misappropriating more than Ksh 350 million belonging to the county. Other governors who have been barred from accessing their county offices over corruption charges are Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu and  his Samburu counterpart Moses Kasaine Lenolkulal.

If approved, Mwenda has a difficult task at hand to clean up the mess that is Nairobi county.
