Lusaka sets date for the hearing of Waititu's impeachment

The Senate will have a special sitting on Tuesday, 21st January,2020 for the hearing of impeachement charges facing embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu. Waititu who was barred from accessing the county offices and later impeached by the County Assembly is facing charges of misappropriating Sh 588 million county funds.

This is after the Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka received a request from Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and a letter from the Speaker of the County Assembly of Kiambu informing him of  the  approval  of  a  Motion  for  the  removal from  office  by  impeachment  of the Governor.

"Further upon receipt  of  a  letter  from  the  Speaker  of  the County  Assembly  of  Kiambu  dated  20th  December,  2019  and  received in  the  Office  of  the  Speaker  of  the  Senate  on  23rd  December,  2019,  by which  the  Speaker  of  the  County  Assembly  of  Kiambu  informed  the Speaker  of  the  Senate  of  the  approval  of  a  Motion  for  the  removal from  office  by  impeachment  of  Mr.  Ferdinand  Ndung’u  Waititu Babayao,  the  Governor  of  Kiambu  County: I  have  appointed  Tuesday,  21st  January,  2020  as  a  day  for  a  special sitting  of  the  Senate.  The  sitting  shall  be  held  in  the  Senate  Chamber, Main  Parliament  Buildings,  Nairobi,  commencing  at  2:30  p.m.   The  business  to  be  transacted  at  the  sitting  shall  be– (a) hearing  of  the  charges  against  Mr.  Ferdinand  Ndung’u Waititu  Babayao,  the  Governor  of  Kiambu  County;  and (b)  consideration  of  a  request  for  the  extension  of  the  tenure  of the  Ad  hoc  Committee  on  Managed  Equipment  Services." read the statement from the speaker
