Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki was a no show today in court despite orders by Justice John Mativo to do so to explain failure by the government to comply with a court order to allow exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna back into the country.

Kariuki was expected to appear in person together with Solicitor General Ken Ogeto to explain why the exiled lawyer was yet to be allowed into the country and why the red alerts issued by the government have not been lifted.

Kihara instead sent representatives from his office, a move that infuriated Miguna's lawyers who maintain that the AG must appear in person.

"The Attorney General  is not merely a technician, he is not like a legal officer in a corporate body. He holds a bigger role. And when the AG speaks the whole country listens. We need him to come address this court. We need an honourable AG. We are dealing with a serious matter and the whole world is watching," said John Khaminwa, Miguna's lawyer.
