The Inspector General (IG) of Police has threatened to withdraw security details and firearms for VIPs involved in crime.

Through a press statement, the IG says that VIPs who are accorded the privilege of security must reciprocate by being law abiding at all times to "avoid compromising and demeaning the very essence of which the police is mandated."

"The National Police Service shall not provide security detail to VIPs who are involved or suspected to be involved in crime until they're cleared by the courts. Those VIPs who are civilian firearm holders shall have their certificates cancelled and weapons withdrawn," read the statement.

This comes at a time when security detail for Gatundu South MP has been withdrawn in unclear circumstances. The MP had said that he would issue a statement today on the death of slain Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission ICT Manager, Christopher Msando.
