Prof Stephen Kiama set to be unveiled as new UoN VC

The University of Nairobi will soon unveil it's new Vice Chancellor after the University Council settled on Professor Stephen Kiama as the best candidate for the post.

8 candidates for the post had been interviewed by the Public Service Commission and Prof Kiama was among the top 3 candidates. The other 2 were Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Madara Ogot and Prof Patricia G Kameri Mbote. Kiama's name has been forwarded to Education CS Prof George Magoha and is expected to be endorsed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the coming week.

Professor Isaac Mbeeche has been the acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi following the exit of Professor Peter Mbithi who was sent on terminal leave by the University Council after they rejected his request for a second term.

Prof Kiama has been a member of the University of Nairobi Senate and University Executive Board and has also served as the Associate Dean of the faculty of veterinary.

The 56 year old is an accomplished scholar with proven track record in formulating and managing academic programs as demonstrated by his publications in peer review journals; supervising and mentoring Master and PhD students and serving as academic head in the Department, Institute and College. He has supervised and mentored 12 PhD Students and
14 Masters Students to completion and co-authored over 140 journal and conference
publications.

Prof. is a holder of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Veterinary
Anatomy degrees from University of Nairobi and Doctor of Philosophy in
Structural Biology from University of Bern, Switzerland.
