Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has warned that any excess passenger who boards a public service vehicle will be forced to alight from the vehicle by traffic police officers.

Speaking at Jogoo house, Mutyambai said that traffic police will deal indivually with any passenger who goes against the directive that he says is meant to keep the roads safe during this festive season. "Any excess passenger will be unboarded and the crew allowed to proceed with the journey with the remaining passengers,"He said.
He added that motorists and passengers must take up responsibilty to ensure safety on the roads.

According to the NTSA and the Traffic Police,from January to December 2019, a total of 3,888 persons have lost their lives on the road, an increase of 13.5% compared to same period last year. 80.7% of reported fatalities are among vulnerable road users such as motorcyclists, pillion passengers and pedestrians.
