Governor Waititu impeached
Embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been impeached. 63 MCAs voted to support the impeachment motion while only one MCA voted against it.
The Governor is accused of gross misconduct and abuse of office. He is accused of contravening the public procurement and disposal act by allegedly influencing the award of lucrative tenders to companies belonging to his immediate family, friends and relatives.

Waititu was barred from accessing his office in July 2019 by Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi following corruption charges against him over irregular award of tenders worth Sh588 million in Kiambu County.
Waititu is also accused of hiring over 600 casuals without the participation of the County Public Service Board.

However, Kiambu Sports and Youth CEC Karungo wa Thang'wa has poured cold water on the impeachment by questioning the numbers of those MCAs who voted for the motion. According to him, only 57 MCAs were present today in Kiambu Assembly. 30 MCAs were in Nakuru County. 3 MCAs are in Dubai. "Meaning 33 MCAs are outside the County. Out of a house of 92 I wonder where the Speaker got 63," He tweeted.
