11th February, 2020 declared public holiday in honour of late Moi

The Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua has spelt out the program of activities leading up to the burial of former President Daniel Arap Moi.
In a media briefing attended by members of the interministerial funeral committee held in Nairobi, Kinyua has said that there shall be three days of public viewing to be held at Parliament buildings. "We wish to inform the public that the state funeral of former President Moi shall be held in accordance with the Presidential proclamation. To allow our nation to reflect on Moi's role and achievements, the body of the late President shall lie in state in Parliament from Saturday the 8th of February, 2020 to Monday 10th February, 2020," said Kinyua.
President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead the nation on Saturday in viewing the body as well as paying last respect.
All state officials whose attendance is required during the viewing have been notified and have been requested to be in Parliament buildings by 9.00 am on Saturday.
Kinyua further said that the casket carrying the body of the former President shall be draped in the Kenya national flag and escorted by family. A military guard of honor is to be mounted as body enters Parliament.
The national memorial service will be an interdenominational christian service conducted by religious leaders from different denominations in the country.
Tuesday 11 February, 2020 has been declared a public holiday in honour of the late President.
The former President will be interred on Wednesday at his Kabarak home. "We encourage Kenyans to participate in the said ceremonies by reflecting ways in which each of us can foster love and unity. We urge each Kenyan to plant a tree or do an act of benevolence to any member of the society in honour of the fallen former Head of State," Kinyua said.
